Movers Simi Valley – TV Packing Tips when Moving
Television sets are already valuable possessions these days. Consider the cost of each LED or LCD TV in the market; one really has to do everything to make it arrive in the new home free from any damage.
When moving short or long distance, the TV has to be packed and protected in such way that it will survive the twists, turns and bumps on the road. It cannot be denied that most moving companies do not treat packages like a baby. So when moving, take time during packing to ensure its safety in the process. Do not put any chance or risk of damage when it can be prevented. Having it repaired after damage may actually even cost more than having it professionally packed. In case moving on a budget, wrapping and packing the TV set can be done at home. Just see to it that it is well-done.
Here is an easy guide in packing the TV for a move.
- Always use the original box
For the television set or any other appliance at home, it is always best to use the original box. The packing done when it was delivered at home is certified safe from damage when being transported. In case this is no longer available, use the right size of box. Moving stores may have flat boxes that are meant for flat screen TV, paintings and any framed works. There are also numerous websites that offer moving materials at a cheaper price.
- Use appropriate packing materials in absence of the original box
Do not simply put the TV inside the box. The screen should be protected and the entire TV should be cushioned with thick cloths, blankets or bubble wrap to ensure its safety. Put layers of the material several times around the TV before securing it with a tape. There are also moving pads available for heavy-duty protection.
- Use the right size of box
Sturdy boxes are available in any moving store. It should be thick and durable enough to protect the fragile appliance that it contains. For further safety, put a layer of bubble wrap at the bottom of the box. Pour in a layer of packing popcorns to serve as cushion. Carefully lift the TV at a level position. Always lift it in an upright direction. If the TV is big, ask another person to lift the other side then place it in the box. Sometimes flat screen TVs are also double protected. It means wrapping it with a layer of cardboard before putting inside another box. This is done especially if the box has to go through a long travel by road or by plane.
- Protect before sealing the box
Once the TV is inside the box, put another layer of packing popcorns. This will prevent the TV from vibrating when being shook. Fill all spaces with popcorns (and up to the rim) before putting another layer of bubble wrap. Finally seal the box with strong packaging tape to ensure that it won’t accidentally pop open while on the road. Sturdy tapes can also be bought from any moving stores.
- Label appropriately
After sealing, use a permanent marker to put a label outside the box. Write in big bold letters the word “FRAGILE: TV INSIDE” and “KEEP UPRIGHT.” It should serve as a warning to the moving guys when they are to lift and carry the box to and from the moving truck.
